Me from the future

The weirdest thing happened to me today.

My van is (not being big headed) is rather unique. It’s painted a very odd yellow, as the paint used is commercial paint meant for a lorry. Also it’s a very early 1971 VW Bay camper and has a different body shape and lights to most VW Campers. Also it’s a Devon conversion, again you don’t see very many of them.

So as far as I was concerned my van was totally unique.

I left the studios for a mid-day appointment today and as driving through the quiet back roads of Shropshire just outside Ironbridge (with my house almost in view across the bridge), parked up with the pop-top open was the exact same van in every detail. Weirder still as I passed (I couldn’t see inside the parked van), a hand started to wave at me as I passed by out of the front window.

If this was a future me, I would have known the exact time I was to pass on the way to the appointment and maybe thought it would be fun to say hello to old Will.

I never caught the registration plate of the van – but in a strange way seeing my future self is rather comforting!

BritishMac Gold

BritishMac Gold launched yesterday and I’m pleased to report subscribers to the podcast have been great!

The podcast costs 99p a month and is free until the 17th of November 2010.

I’m looking forward to having some fun with the content and developing some ideas I have but never had room for them in the regular editions of BritishMac.

A control surface for £6 + an iPad

I spent a good portion of yesterday trying to get my aging, but still beautiful, mixing desk working as a control surface for Logic – but to no avail.

So in the process of sourcing one for the new studio I decided to have a look at the software options for the iPad and tried out the AC-7 Pro Control Surface priced £5.99 and $9.99 from the iTunes store.

It’s a great piece of software for both home studio and pro studio user, and I have spent an enjoyable day putting it through its paces. I won’t put a full review here (because I’m a tease like that), I’ll cover it this weeks British Mac podcast and then do a in-depth tutorial in the October issue of the PaperMac magazine.

AVI on your iPad

Many thanks to Russell Albert for this one.

Cinexplayer available to download via the App Store for free, the app allows you to play Divx movies such as .avi on your iPad.

There’s some handy video tutorials with the app to show you how to get the movies onto iPad which is just a few steps in iTunes.

A great app, download it now before Apple pulls it!
